Jingle and Hagen, two of our New Guinea singing dogs, were chosen to
be bred by the New Guinea Singing Dog Conservation Society's 2012
annual breeding.  We, the NGSDCS, do one breeding per year simply to
maintain the captive population until the great day comes we are able to
find wild singers still living on the island of New Guinea.  An expedition
will be planned to New Guinea for the sole purpose of locating and
confirming that wild singers do in fact still exist.  At that time, we very
much hope we will be able to bring new singers home to give the captive
population a very much needed shot in the arm of new DNA.  We hope
the day for our expedition will be soon.

Now, the pictures below are of Jingle and her new family of two females
and two males.  Her 2010 litter was all boys.  We were very happy to see
two little girls in this litter.

Happy Independence Day, folks!  Tina and I are here at the Lodge this
morning taking care of all our guests, and I thought I'd take a minute to
post the latest pictures of the pups.  As we were weighing them Monday,
Tina pointed out that the girls are so much bigger than the boys.  I
asked her if that really surprised her.  A harmless enough little joke, but,
boy, can she give me some mean looks!
The individual pictures below are of the kids this past Saturday, July 7th.
The group picture was taken today, July 9th, just before we headed
back up here to the kennel after lunch.  And, yes, they're growing like
weeds!  Oh!!!  Their eyes began opening today!!!  Yes!  I will take some
pictures tomorrow, when they're officially two weeks old, and when their
eyes will be open wider than they are today.
These pictures, although posted today, Thursday, July 12th, were
taken Tuesday, the pup's two week old mark.  If you think they're still so
small, just scroll up and look at their first pictures.  Where they were
barely a handful that first day, they fill two hands easily now.  The
pictures below will be in birth order, as always.  Oh, and check out their
eyes!  They began opening on Monday, July 9th, a day before they
turned two weeks old.  I know, I know, they need names.  We're working
on it.  We always try to stick to a theme.  We're having a tough time
coming up with a theme this time.  And, it seems the themes we think of,
at least, tend to have better male names than females.  We're working
on it, though.
We are announcing that we have names for the new babies!  As I said,
we always try to give them names that follow a theme.  We're running
out of themes!  I suggested cars - muscle cars, you know, real cars.
And that was working fine, but it quickly became clear there weren't
many female names.  So we went with a golf theme.  I played golf for
30-something years before hanging it up to open Beechwood Trails.  It
seemed somewhat appropriate to use golf as a theme, since it was such
a huge part of our lives for so long.  These pictures were taken on
Monday, July 16, the day before they were three weeks old.
