Rio & Lita
This page will serve as a gallery and news page for Lita, Rio and
their kids.  These three pictures are of Rio near his home in Miami.
Isn't he a great looking guy?!!  Rio is an unregistered, wild-caught
Carolina Dog, now living the good life with his loving family.  With
Dr. Brisbin's help, we will register Rio with the UKC, making Lita
and Rio's pups from a completely registered pair.  I think it is so
fantastic to begin a new branch of Carolina Dogs in captivity,
beginning from a pair of sure enough, pure, caught in the wild
parents!

It would have been nice to have been able to register these two with
ARBA (American Rare Breed Association), but they have a rather
narrow minded policy of requiring a three generation pedigree to be
eligible.  You know, when you're dealing with "rare breeds", it just
may be that new, wild-caught specimens need to be brought in to
the breeding program.  But having such a, again, narrow minded
policy, it can serve to discourage people from helping save these
wonderful, extremely intelligent dogs from extinction.  Oh well, it's
their ball, so I guess we have to play by their rules.  We do have to
realize, though, that it's their loss, not ours.  They are only hurting
their own organization.  Why would you do something like that?

Carolina Dogs aren't the latest designer breed or the newest craze.
They are thousands of years in the making, bred by the master
breeder: Mother Nature.  Over the ages, from all over the world,
dogs of all types, wild and domesticated, became the building
blocks.  Natural selection weeded out the weak traits and brought
about the perfect dog.  A highly intelligent, amazingly loyal dog, able
to learn nearly anything it's size allows, making it one of the best
companions I've seen.
